South Australia embraces E-Scooter use

South Australia Embraces Legal E-Scooter Use

From July 13, 2025, South Australians will legally be able to ride e-scooters and other personal mobility devices on public roads and footpaths for the first time. This historic regulatory shift paves the way for safer, more accessible active transport options across the state — and aligns with national momentum toward smarter urban mobility.

Under the new rules introduced by the South Australian Government:

  • Riders must be over the age of 16.
  • E-scooters can be used on bike lanes and roads up to 60km/h (riding up to 25km/h max).
  • Other personal mobility devices like e-skateboards are limited to roads with 50km/h speed limits.
  • Helmets are mandatory, and use of lights is required in low-light conditions.
  • Riding under the influence or while holding a phone is strictly prohibited.
  • E-scooters won’t be allowed on Adelaide Metro public transport (for now).

A public education campaign is also being rolled out to ensure South Australians understand their rights and responsibilities under the new system.

Stride Supports Safer, Smarter Urban Transport in SA

At Stride, we welcome this move toward formal recognition of e-scooters as part of South Australia’s transport ecosystem. These changes bring much-needed clarity to riders and operators and help unlock the full potential of lightweight, sustainable transport across cities.

Our mission has always been about building smarter, safer transport options — not just faster ones. That’s why we’ve invested in:
• Real-time helmet detection and in-app safety education
• Speed-sensitive zones and geo-fencing to help riders stay within legal limits
• Privacy-first ride tracking and vehicle logging
• Seamless backend systems to ensure compliance with local regulations

We’re excited about the opportunity to bring Stride’s technology and vehicles to South Australia and are preparing to engage with councils, communities, and government bodies across the state.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to expand responsibly and in partnership with local stakeholders.
